| CONGRATULATIONS!!! Western Maine Youth Rabbit Person of 2009 Western Maine RBA has chosen Galen McLaughlin as youth rabbit person of 2009. You may have heard Galen’s name before. He was Western Maine’s youth rabbit person a few years ago. Many times after a youth has been chosen rabbit person, they get a little older and their interests change, and they leave rabbits behind. Not so with Galen. He has been a member of Western Maine for five years, and continues to be interested. Galen started out several years ago by purchasing a Californian rabbit that he named “Spike”. He joined 4H at that time, and Spike was his rabbit project. He inspired his mom to purchase a doe, and they have been raising meat rabbits for their family ever since. Although Galen doesn’t show often, he did discover his favorite breed, the Polish, at a show. He bought a pair of Polish, learned about breeding to the standard, and raised litters of his own. He most recently expressed an interest in specializing in blue Polish, and wants to have rabbits with a complete Blue pedigree. This is a goal he is working on. Galen has promoted rabbits in many places. He is such an asset to our club, contributing in many ways. He is often seen at our rabbit displays talking to kids and adults alike, answering questions. He helps with setting up and cleaning up at shows and displays. He works at the food booth at the shows. Not only will Galen help out with just about anything you ask, he sees things that need to be done and does them. Western Maine is so fortunate to have a youth member such as Galen. This is why Western Maine has chosen Galen Mclaughlin as youth rabbit person of 2009. |
